I am fortunate to have been born with a very strong visual sense. It enables me to look at an object and visualize it as becoming a part of something else. From that very first spark it quickly comes together in my head with other components to form a complete image of the finished assemblage I will soon create. I am the daughter of an artist and an electrical engineer (both sides of the brain!) so I then make a detailed drawing of the completed piece, followed by a detailed list of what to accomplish. I also have a wicked sense of humor that usually comes through in each creation.
Most of my pieces are made of a combination of wood, metal and fabric. I like to have a human element in it, usually a body part or parts from old mannequins or dolls and prefer to use old or used elements as they already have character. The challenge and fun comes in figuring out the construction of the piece and making it all work out.
After a thirty year career as a custom picture framer and designer as well as seven years of owning a gift and year round costume shop, my choice to pursue my own art career was an easy one. The skills learned from picture framing, window decoration and costume design are incorporated in each new creation. I can’t wait to start each new piece and enjoy every step as it evolves towards completion.
