As an artist and botanical enthusiast, I have been influenced by the natural world and the fantastical, especially the Voynich Manuscript, a mysterious, undeciphered manuscript dating to the 15th or 16th century. Using encaustic and mixed media I try to evoke the memory of a familiar and recognizable natural form while staying on the periphery of the identifiable. My botanical paintings are created using unconventional tools, blowtorches, air compressors, and blades. There is rarely an actual brush stroke visible. The colored forms bloom on the encaustic surface; my job is to capture them in wax.
